Jessica is a research associate at the Open Government Partnership, where she leads on research about justice sector governance. She earned her bachelor’s degree in International Politics from Georgetown University in 2018 and has conducted fieldwork in Tanzania.
Maria Waqar is a Bentley postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington. She recently got her PhD in Political Science from the Department of Political Science at Indiana University. She is interested in understanding how formal institutions, such as gender quotas, interact with informal networks and norms to determine behavior of women in elected office. She did original fieldwork in Pakistan for her dissertation research, which entailed building an original, longitudinal dataset and conducting semi-structured interviews with policymakers, bureaucrats, and activists.
